Here is the March 2015 newsletter from NHSPA.*
UPCOMING NHSPA EVENT REMINDERS/UPDATES
-- May 3, 11am, the regular annual meeting at the Currier Museum (from David Speltz).
The agenda includes proposed revisions of the bylaws as well as the election of NHSPA board members. The report from the board will also include a summary of activities of the past year, a report on our finances, and website changes, and an update on the critique program that will begin later in May at the AMC Highland Center retreat in Crawford Notch during the Memorial Day weekend. The Currier’s exhibit on photorealism ends that day. We encourage members to see this show before it closes, either before or after the meeting.
-- May 22-25 - Spring retreat at the AMC Highland Center in the White Mountains (from David Speltz):
It is important, if you plan to attend this event, and if you have not booked your room, to call AMC to do so. Rooms are being held for NHSPA members until March 22 after which they will be released to the general public. So far we have 16 attendees.
Tillman Crane will be our guest photographer that weekend. Tillman is an accomplished photographer and platinum printer from Camden, ME. He plans to spend most of the weekend with us. You can view his website at www.tillmancrane.com
Call for speakers: As we did last year, we will have an array of our own members complementing Tillman Crane as speakers during the weekend. Talks and demonstrations are what make this event so interesting. I encourage you to contact me to discuss and book a time for a subject you can share with us. The talent among our group is amazing. We want to hear you. Contact David Speltz at email@example.com.
It is likely that most meetings and talks will take place Saturday and part of Sunday. There should be plenty of time for hiking and relaxing. If you can, arrive Friday and leave on Monday.
The basic cost IS $71/person per night (plus tax) including breakfast and dinner. Upgrades are possible. Book your room now, if you can. Here are the details from our friends at the AMC.

-- 2015 Star Island Retreat Quick Update (from Barbara Zulkiewicz)
Registration is open for the NHSPA September retreat on the starisland.org website for Thursday, September 10 thru Sunday, September 13, 2015. I am working to confirm the special guest photographer. The boat out to Star on Thursday, 9/10 will be at 1:25PM, not 4:25 (when we have usually left). Not sure why, I asked the question, but have not received an answer yet.
More information to follow. If anyone has any questions, please contact me at 603.422.5558 or firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you and hope to see you on Star in September.
Camera Commons (from David Speltz)
Camera Commons (www.cameracommons.com) opened in late February with an open house hosting more than 50 visitors. Studios, darkroom, the gallery, classroom, archiving center and the digital lab were toured with demonstrations and talks given by Peter Randall, John Anderson, Kate Crichton, Michael Sterling and David Speltz. Carol Van Loon is managing the gallery.
On March 27th Camera Commons will participate in the Dover Art Walk from 530 - 730p and then a short demo on taking better panoramas with an IPhone will launch the call for IPhone pans which will be shown on the 65 inch monitor in gallery starting in mid-April. John Anderson will be showing massive NH covered bridge panoramas (printed at Camera Commons) on the walls, starting at the same time.
On Sunday, March 29, a film on Vivian Meier (the nanny photographer) will be show with discussion. It is also a change to tour the new facility. There is plenty of parking.
For more information, please contact David Speltz at email@example.com or visit www.cameracommons.com. Camera Commons is open 24/7 for members and by appointment for non-members and is located at 652 Central Ave in Dover, NH.
