NHSPA ANNUAL SHOW IN EXETER: DATES, CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS, AND POSTER IMAGE COMPETITION
(from exhibit coordinator Ron St. Jean)
The NHSPA 15th Annual Member Exhibit will take place at the Exeter Town Hall Gallery from January 11 – February 2, 2014. All members with 2014 dues paid are invited to enter up to two photographs of any subject (keeping in mind that children do attend).
Submission details are on the 2014 Exeter Entry Form, which can be found online, at this link:
To access the form, click on the link above. With luck the form will appear in your web browser. If not, copy the above link into your web browser's address bar and press return. Once the form is visible in your web browser, use the Save As or Print Command in the file menu as needed.
The form will also be posted on the nhspa.org web site as soon as possible.
The festive show opening will take place on Saturday, January 11, from 12:00 to 4:00, followed at 4:00 by our member meeting, featuring a speaker on nighttime photography. More info on that is provided below. In the event of unseasonably bad weather, the snow/ice/sleet date for both events will be Sunday, January 12. Check the NHSPA Facebook page for updates.
We will be printing and distributing pdf files of a poster promoting the exhibit. Members are invited to submit ONE show image for consideration as the poster image. Please e-mail me one low res (72ppi) file labeled with your last name and the image title by December 13. If your image is selected by the panel of judges, you will be asked to provide a high res file and a statement that you agree to allow your photograph to be used for promotion of the exhibit. My e-mail is email@example.com.
We will need volunteer gallery sitters from 12:00 to 4:00 on the following dates: January 12, 18, 19, 25, 26, February 1 & 2. Please contact me with your availability.
Members are invited to offer 45-minute gallery talks on any photo related subject (such as a technique, an interesting trip) on the same dates listed above. Please contact me with your proposal.
Volunteer help is welcome for hospitality on the opening day, cleanup during pickup on February 2, and hanging the show January 5 starting at noon. We could also use help locking and unlocking the gallery from a couple of members who live in Exeter. Please let me know if you would like to help with any of those jobs.
I look forward to seeing you all and your wonderful images!
DETAILS ON SPEAKER/PRESENTATION FOR OUR JAN. 11 MEMBER'S MEETING
[Editor's note: As mentioned above, the NHSPA Fall/Winter Member Meeting will be held at the Exeter Town Hall at 4pm on Jan 11. That's immediately following the Opening Reception for our Exeter show, so you can kill two birds with one trip to Exeter this year. The main event of that meeting will be the presentation described by Sarah below. We hope to see everyone there.]
(from Sarah Flause)
We are very pleased to announce that an exciting young Boston photographer, Nora Vrublevska, will be doing a presentation and a workshop as part of the NHSPA Member Meeting on January 11, 2014 at the Exeter Town Hall Gallery immediately following the opening of our Annual Exhibition. The presentation will provide an overview of night time photography techniques and will be followed by an optional workshop to include additional information and an opportunity for some hands-on experience for all interested members.
Nora Vrublevska was born in Riga, Latvia and currently lives and works in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She photographs mainly urban landscapes and architecture at night using long exposures. Nora teaches and exhibits work regionally and is currently a faculty member at The New England School of Photography where she teaches night photography. Her work can be seen on her website at www.noravrublevska.com and blog at blog.noravrublevska.com.

HARRY LICHTMAN IS A WINNER IN THE 2013 NATURE'S BEST/SMITHSONIAN PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION
(from Harry Lichtman)
I am pleased to announce that my image Renewal taken in Torres del Paine National Park, Chile (Patagonia) was recently selected a Highly Honored Award winner in the 2013 Nature's Best / Smithsonian Photography Competition (Windland Smith-Rice Award, http://www.naturesbestphotography.com/competition_legacy.php). The image was awarded in the Landscape Category and was selected from among 24,000 entries from around the world. The competition is one of the most prestigious and draws internationally recognized nature photographers. While largely a showcase of wildlife images, Renewal was one of 6 landscape images selected. The image will likely appear in an exhibit at the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. in the fall of 2014 - Spring 2015. I will post dates when finalized.
